Hi Skip,

So glad to hear you found the needed door part. I’ll be doing a Bus Depot order soon as well.

I’d be interested in talking about your AFM. I may also have a lead on a good one but I have not asked yet about price or donation.

Before you do anything with your used AFM though I have a crazy suggestion. Take off the new one from GW and put your old one back on. See if your idle returns to happy.

Why would I say this? I had a new AFM from GW on my 84 with 1.9 ignition.

Many folks tried to fix my running issue and it included idle and inability to run with O2 sensor on. I was getting about 15 Miles per Gallen.

We didn’t address the AFM because I had a new one from GW installed.

Lucky for me a very generous list member had sent me some 1.9 parts from a recent engine update. Included was the used AFM.

Finally a recent new mechanic to me removed the new GW AFM and put on his known good one. Van suddenly ran great, great idle and runs with O2 on.

I changed to my used spare from our list member, and though it is not as good as my mechanics, it is good enough. Van now gets 22 miles per Gallen and idles well if not great. Mechanic offered to try to improve the AFM but I’m instead searching for another working spare. With luck changing it out gets me a even better idle and I’ll have a working spare.

My new GW AFM is sitting in my parts bin. It looks nice but doesn’t work. So maybe it would make a good core for a skilled rebuilder.

So, try that old AFM and I’m guessing you will have your nice idle back! If that doesn’t help and your able to part with your used one I’m interested.

PS I also installed Kyles wiring harness. In my case I didn’t notice any differences, but the new wires give me more confidence. Eric Caron

BTW, I'm located in a far western suburb of Chicago. Re AFM, I bought a rebuilt one from GoWesty (not that my original was bad, I'm just more of a "replacist" rather than a "rebuilter". I have the old one if you would like it and I had no reason to believe that it's bad. Best thing I ever did for the engine was to buy a new wiring harness from the good guy in Ohio (name slips me). > > For you (or anyone on this list), I'm happy to provide parts for free (I can ship from my office with your FedEx or UPS acct. number (or you could email me your FedEx/UPS label (create one online))). > > Now, it's been awhile since I've trouble-shot a "searching idle", so open to some suggestions. For background, my rebuilder is a renowned air-cooled guy (he rebuilds engines for the "American Pickers" personal collections). He timed the engine up, but couldn't eliminate the "searching idle". He closed off the "retard". Not sure if the issue is a vacuum leak or otherwise. Any ideas anyone (if you're still reading...). > > Kind regards, > > Skip > > On Sun, Sep 17, 2023 at 11:17 AM Eric Caron <ericcaron96@comcast.net <mailto:ericcaron96@comcast.net>> wrote: >> Hi Skip, >> >> I don’t have this part or an easy source.
