Subject:   Idle Air valve

Hi folks,

So, I’m still trying to sort out my 85 motor and get it running the best I can.

Last few efforts to improve things, mainly around idle, stalling, and oil leak

Local mechanic ran out of time, so I may bring back in the spring.

Work done so far.

Flex plate bolts were loose and now corrected Timing was at 41 now at 35 Crank sensor adjusted Engine ignition connected to computer and to GW consultant. All functions checked on line. All seemed correct.

Idle does seem ok to me. Main issue was that if accelerator is punched can stall.

When working with GW mechanic tried repeatedly to get engine to stall for assessment but could only get it to happen once.

After I picked up and drove home we tried to see if it stalled going forward or back and we could not get it to stall. Maybe a slight hesitation in reverse with heavy foot.

So, I”m hoping that is actually now improved.

Oil leak is small but bother’s me. Partly fixed, I thought it was a connector on the oil cooler. Turned out to be a leaking valve cover over the connector. Still something small leaking at rear of van that needs to be tracked down, but small enough that it can wait. I never see impact on the dip stick. No longer enough to show up on rear of van after travel. So improving No oil on top of engine or seen from there. Collects at center of engine support at rear of van.

Idle air valve.

Mechanic tried a spare from a friend. No change I was going to put the one Dennis installed back on but instead put a third one donated by a friend. This one looked clean and looked like it had fewer miles. It seems to be preforming the same.

So, Engine seems a bit louder, sort of tapping. I want to get it out on a long drive and see if that improves things. I think it had many short start and stops while being worked on.

Any thoughts or suggestions that you folks have bassed on this information s appreciated.
