 Hey, thank you for the tips guys.  I'm gonna justify the cost of this helpful gadget by saying if it prevents cable kink even one time, it's worth it; nothing beats smooth operating cables, maybe even better than factory.  And, I can use on my mountain bike cables too (either my bike or friends or kids in neighborhood).  And thanks Alistair for the tip about using lightweight open-cell foam for the door flaps....makes good sense.  Now.....all I've got to do is get my Vanagon back from the body shop to integrate these fixes....and some progress is being made in that arena.

 I’ve been using that same item for years on my cables, even the “accelerator” cable to my diesel injector. It works perfectly and there’s nothing else you need but a good chain line spray.
