 And don't be discouraged at all....last time my extremely experienced Vanagon mechanic replaced all 4 CV's, his comment was that usually a couple of the bolts snap at the head...and sure enough, that is exactly what happened and they were on the outside CV's.  So basically, plan ahead for this event.

of the bolt that is slightly larger than the diameter of the threaded part.
The head will fall off  when you reach the threads. Remove the CV joint.
Then drill a hole in the remaining dimple to fit your favorite thread
extractor and have at it.
