Back in 1998, I had just purchased my second Vanagon (the first was an 1982 diesel
that I had purchased new). It was a 1984 with automatic transmission and air
conditioning. Seller thought it was junk, but got it back working and learned enough
about how it worked to do an engine swap (Boston Bob rebuild) in my driveway in 2003,
followed by repaint, etc., in 2004. It made it to 2017.
