HI listers,

I am able to get my vanagon to a local mechanic about once a year for service. I like to do prevention and the jobs I don’t want to ask friends to help with.

This fall the van is having the brake fluid changed, the old coolant hoses replaced, and a general inspection.

As the gas tank is coming down for this I am thinking I should have it resealed at the same time. And, this is a 84 and I have a nice looking clean later gas tank from a 87. Would the list members suggest using the later tank as it will be an easy change? I think they have a camera to inspect the tanks.

My current tank is original 84 from the south and seems clean. This van has the rear heater removed. The person doing the work plans to replace all original hoses as far as I know. This came up as I had a heater hose in the rear blow last spring. And the hoses look to be of the same age and condition.

Thoughts appreciated.

Eric Caron
