Here it is! The final, definitive, absolutely authoritative Report on bURNINGvAN 2025.
First, it was a beautiful day, I think the best I can remember regarding weather. And a surfer dude [vanagon owner, naturally] told me the surf was good too. He actually left to go surfing, that should tell you something. Leaving the social event of the year, maybe decade, maybe century! for surfing, it must have been good.
Attendance was unbelievable! There were easily a gajillion vans. All types, buses, beetle convertibles [what you didn't know they were vans? Stealth vans, they are.] And there were even people there too. Lots of them. Some of them had first attended a bURNINGvAN when their parents had brought them. Many more younger people too. Under 30? I don't know. Young to me means quite a bit different than it used to mean. What there wasn't was Eric C. And after he pinky promised too!
There were rusty, dirty vans - the way they're supposed to be - and pristine, immaculate vans, lots of them. Impressive they were.Vans powered by everything, including all electric, which was a very nice van indeed, and Porsche 3.2 L aircooled! The brakes were just as impressive. Dang. Every kind of gas, diesel, turbine (okay, maybe not turbine). Even stock, I'm sure of that because Craig Forney showed up and everyone knows he the king of stock.
The owner of the van resuse list(s) showed up, from Houston! I'm pretty sure that's not in California so he came quite aways. Gave me his card, lots and lots of help available. Neato. Even BenT showed up almost on time, well, it was the same day and I was informed by someone who had been born in the Filipines that over there that's on time.
People had stuff out to sell, stuff out to give away, and just stuff. Way cool.
I would list everyone but I didn't get all the names and I have a lousy memory and can't remember the names I did get, anyway you know who you are, even if I don't.
Many people had food out for the hordes. It was all good too. I had to quit sampling as I was too full.
Ben said he'd try and post pictures. No more taking pictures for me though. I look at them later and have no idea who was in the picture. Might have been my family reunion pictures. Same deal.
I'm very glad I showed up, and happy to have spoken with as many people as I did. Tremendous success. Perhaps BenT and I will double the entry fee next year? Anyway I was asked about the rules. They are posted at the end of this email. Read them, there will be a quiz.
Mike
