Hi Richard,

I’ve received some replies and additional info. The speakers are glued to the grill. Getting them apart looks like a real challenge. Luckily Chris at Uniwerks makes a grill to maintain the original look.

I may still try to free up the original speaker grills, but I’m being silly as the Uniwerks ones will do the job nicely.

In the last decade or so small speakers have improved a lot, Example the tiny but powerful ones in the Echo devices, and even computers and phones.

I just installed a quality set of 4 inch speakers in the rear cabinet, still need grills, The sound is incredibly good compared to the original speakers. I won’t need to use anything larger then the stock placement for sound I'll can hear and enjoy over the road noise.

Thanks for the info and thoughts.

At the time, I also added some bigger speakers down below on the door panel, above the metal. I am very pleased with the result, I just wired them in parallel. I discourage trying to retrofit new speakers and grilles into old spot; always issues with window cranks and clearances...and sure, I am aware of the GoWesty cranks.

I have some reproductions coming from uniwerks, but wanted to know. Is there any reasonable way to remove the original speaker from the grill? Or is this one unit that will not come apart?
