you might want to check the voltage at the instrument pod connection. you might have a not-so-good ground connection up there. or maybe an over- voltage? maybe the setup is putting out too much voltage for the little voltage regulator on the printed circuit foil strip?

funny how it almost sounds like those old generator-light-that-won't-go-out sotries in the old beetle engined buses. :)
