FWIW as a data point, I run a 009 in an otherwise stock '69 bus (using the screw & hose trick as needed), and she purrs like a kitten.

I mean it used to, it's in a million pieces on the floor of the garage right now, but it will again. :-)

I know you guy's engines are a little different than mine, but I wouldn't be too quick to blame the 009.
