Just did that from upstate NY to NYC and back (600 miles roundtrip) No problems...at least 300 miles on per tankful ('82). The gauge is accuracy-impaired, so I don't risk running it down too low, and the odometer is operationally-challanged, so I can't tell MPG really...

Wow PJ! I just had this *same* discussion with my wife on the highway last night. She thought I was a lunatic (or something). That darn engine just runs *better* after an hour. It is quieter (or I am deafer) and runs much more smoothly....
