OK, I'm not yer Mom, but here goes. For Cassie's sake, your own, and that of other folks, take care of this one right away. Motion is optional; being able to stop is mandatory.

It does sound like the master cylinder, or something close by. Does the brake pedal feel spongy/mushy? These aren't really tough to rebuild as long as you're careful (if I say this you know it must be true), and are you sure it's not in a line?
