Yes, Once someone, whose name must have been Fred Ulysses Charles Kramer, signed his initials on the rear quarter of my '85. I was able to sand it gently with very light sand paper and then buff the heck outta it and completely remove the marks. And it's one of the few places on the van that hasn't even started showing rust yet. (although it has been painted since)
