Subject: More than you ever wanted to know about lock cylinders

Ok, here's a dimensioned drawing of the lock cylinder I'm looking for, and the ones that come in the new Brazilian baywindow door handles and one I picked up at the Antonio VW parts counter.

Bottom line, the old cylinder is smaller in diameter than new ones (0.470" versus 0.530"), and the crowns of the wafers are wider (0.168" versus 0.208"). So I'm going to try finding old 0.47" cylinders when I visit the junkyard, then see if I can make a new tail-end piece to fit, since the new ones, at least, are shorter enough that I think there's space. Looks like I'll have to cut back some of the boss on the end, but I don't think this is that big a problem. There's a lot of metal between the end of the keyway and the end of the boss.

Of course, I'm going to try all the local lock shops, and I'd ask if any of you have a box of lock cylinders, or see some, to look for these jewels! I'd be happy to pay for one or two cylinders, with or without keys, as long as they're intact!

Cylinder from "Witte 261 829 561C" latch on my '70 single-cab. This is what I want to replace!
