My father did the same 'improvement' on our '72 Westy (in '72) and perhaps on the '69 before that (but I can't remember I was 11 when the poor '69 became a target for an early Honda Civic. IN mid vacation trip we had to unpack one Westy and load up another - boy did I digress...
