I'm sure the mechanic doesn't want to spend all his time tracking down a black box for a low budget customer. He probably just left messages with all of his connections to be on the look out for one. Otherwise, your van is just getting the "Sunshine" treatment. Sticking carburators on is an option, but either way, it's going to cost you a significant amount of bread to get it running again.
