Subject:      Electric VW Pick up truck

A guy at my son's school showed up at a school work party saturday with a home built electric pick up truck converted from a VW 5 sp pick up.

Power - (20) 6 volt golf cart batteries, all in series, 5 under hood over motor, 15 in box at rear end of pickup bed

Motor - 20 Hp dc motor, 120 volt, peak currents 400 amps.

Typical cruise on freeway, 55, 4th gear, 120 amps (5th gear too tall, doesn't use it)

Power to motor is from an off the shelf Pulse Width Modulator.

12 Power for accessories is from step down voltage regulator from 120 v. main battery pack.

Range is about 40-50 miles.

Vacuum boost for brakes comes from stock . vacuum booster supplied via electric vacuum pump hooked to stock vacuum resivour.

Electric motor bolts to stock transaxel.

Charger mounted under the hood, socket for 120 VAC mounted at original gas tank filler hole.
