Although oil does not always flow there, the case gets real close to the oil temp in that location. In fact. i use this set up on my 87 syncro and it works great. You can see the oil temp climb when pushing the engine hard while the water temp remains stable. it's amazing how much the oil and water temp can differ. Especially with the original oil to water heat exvhanger repalced with a real oil cooler. Dennis.
