Subject:      diesel busses, what year

hi,


my friends and i want to buy a vw bus for the summer and use it to go to the south of europe. (we are in the south of holland at the moment).
I know VW made/makes their busses with diesel engines. what we want to know is; what from waht modelyear was a diesel engine available ? 
we want to buy a 70's pano (a split would be nice, but they are hard to find around here) the only mayor prob is the budget. so if we could run the van on diesel it would make a lot of difference.
