Citroen (French company) for a long time (up until almost 1980) produced a
series of air-cooled cars (starting with the famous 2 CV) using a large
front cooling fan directly screwed onto the crankcase rod (opposite the
tranny). Fool-proof principle, no belts etc.: whenever the engine turned,
the fan did ...
