Tighten the belt up.  It's not supposed to be loose.  The belt is slipping
on the pulleys and the resulting friction is making them hot.  It's also
making your ENGINE hot, as it's not turning the generator (and the fan bolted
on the other side) as fast as it should, due to the slippage.  :-)
