Is it on the outside? Sounds like a VW dealership tag. I pulled one off of a '55 Sunroof Beetle that was anodized aluminum (blue), triangular in shape, had a VW logo and the text: F. KOHLER Landsberg/Lech

They make nice trinkets. :-)
