drawing upon my degree in Ergonomics (NOT!) I would suggest a single, bicolor LED.... yellow=low red=high

these are a whopping $0.75 each. have three leads: common, yellow-on, red-on.

--OR-- we could use an infra-red LED... :-) infra-red... heat... oh, never mind.
