The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued the following recall:

Winnebago Industries. 1997 Volkswagen Eurovans produced by Volkswagen were completed by Winnebago Industries. During the installation of camper equipment on 201 models, an improperly adjusted power-tool drill bit punctured the fuel tank vapor cannister.

VW dealers, on behalf of Winnebago,will check the fuel-vapor container for defect and, if the defect is present, the fuel tank will be replaced. Owner notification had not begun at press time.

Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer and do not receive the free remedy should contact VW at (800) 822-8987.
