Bob, Volks et. al. In reviewing Helmut's Ziedler's post this week from the Auto show, he gave a figure of 7000 DM for a 90 or 110 HP 1.9 TDI w/conversion kit for Vanagons (apparently not all required though) from some shops in Germany. I converted this to just under $4K USD's and figure around another $500 min shipping/duty etc. I can't seem to find Helmut's original post, but $4,500 to $5K seems pretty good to me for a conversion kit to VW's latest/greatest TDI pumping out 110 ponies, and sliding into our Vanagons as meant to be there (bellhousing, engine mounts etc). I can't fathom my 82 Diesel Westy going from 48 tired horses to 110 spritely ponies. As well, to me this is a viable alternative for my 87 GL wasserboxer/ottoboxer. With that HP I think the auto tranny would perform just fine. Smog legality issues another factor not to be touched here today. Mark B. Magee 87 GL 88K 82 Diesel Westy Kemah TX |
