Questions:


1)  How much will a new fuel tank cost?


Standard 60 Liter DM 650.00 at VW dealer
                  DM 100.00 at salvage yards
Enlarged South African 85 Liter DM 850.00 at Winkler, Germany


2)  Any idea what the dealer charges in labor for the repair?


2 or 3 hours to replace the standard
DM 500.00 to built the enlarged under the van


3)  Should I try this myself or wimp out? (we can afford it - it just bugs
      me to toss money away when I might be able to do it myself)


I did it myself, not very difficult.
