HI I have a 91 syncro westfalia which I recently acquired. It has the standard syncro fuel tank in the back as well as the usual (non-syncro) tank up front under the passenger seat. It is a neat set up except I never know how much gas I have in the reserve tank. I would like to install a gauge to show me this. I initially figured on installing a normal vanagon sender and running the input to a gauge on the dash. Being a simple person at heart and in mind I then thought - why not use the existing gauge? Is it possible to place a switch in the fuel sender circuit so that I could switch the gauge input from the front to rear sender (and back)? As regards snow tyres. Here in Alaska we need studded tyres and I wanted to get another set of steel wheels to mount them on so I don't have to mount and unmount my summer tyres each season. I wasn't sure if any VW steel wheel would work so I dropped the spare to compare that wheel with my Brother-in-law's golf wheels but my spare, to my surprise, is also an alloy wheel. So can anyone help me here? Can I buy a set of steel wheels off any VW (old or new) and have them work? What about lug bolts - I presume they are different than those for the alloys? TIA.
