Negociating rough logging trails in my 83.5 Westy 2x4 made me long for a syncro. If you should try this, kids, one trick is to keep your speed up to a good walk anyway. The problem is that when one of the front wheels goes down, a back one gets light, spins, and presto, you're stuck. Momentum will get you over these imbarassing spots. They may occur anyway. I don't go off road without a shovel. Actually, tho, you don't need a syncro. You just need a limited slip differential. I could handle lots rougher terrain with just that. Does anyone know of a 2x4 Vanagon with a limited slip or locking diff? TBill ***Never date outside your species.*** |
