Must add lest you all think my 83.5 Westy is, well, a beast, it did the 1500 mi in good form. Advancing the timing helps. I did 70 mph with plenty of pedal left. Got 19.5 mpg on first tank. Then ran full out to check the top end (seemed to be 83 mph) that dropped mpg down to 18.4, still lots better than my previous trip this summer to El Paso. But I wasn't running the AC this time. Mpg stayed at 19.5 or more the rest of the trip, high was 21.9 mpg, my personal record for highway. Had a tail wind on that tank. Not bad for a 1.9 engine. Noticed the red dot shift marks on speedo. I have an automatic so it doesn't make any difference, but those three dots at 65 are a bit unsettling. Are those just for stick shifts? Doesn't make much sence for a 3 speed auto...
