In reply to Stephen Jones's <sjones@TETONDATA.COM> question on "...Is there a trailer hitch wiring kit for the Vanagon out there?..." please note this experience. During my May long weekend installing a wiring harness for a trailer and rewiring and rewiring and rewiring a canoe trailer because as it turns out..... the picture in the Bentley manual and my actual right tail light wiring were different!!
I tried everything- e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g but the trailer lights would not work correctly. Then Tim Smith came by and said "May be the picture in the book is wrong?" 11 hours into the project and 5 minutes after Tim left....all was working perfectly. This could due to the fact that the picture in the book was a "left" tail light and I was splicing wires into the "right" tail light. The #1 wire at the top of the picture (left side) was doing the same function as the #6 wire on the actual trial light (right side) The "circuit board like" wiring that is in the tail light looks like it can be used right or left depending on how a few "punch-out'able" pieces are treated.
I spliced into the system and sodered wires on without cutting the originals. Dino |
