Subject: bike racks

Hey all, I'm so sorry to post this to the list, I know it's been done countless times before.

I checked the archives but only found a headache -- those archives hurt my brain! :-)

Basically I'm looking for testimonials. Please testify privately to me so as not to re-hash this again on the list, as I know it's been done before. I've ignored it before thinking "I don't need a bike rack" but now realizing that I want to get a bike update and a rack to haul it with.

Basically I'm looking for something sturdy and of fairly good quality that will mount on the rear hatch of my '81 Vanagon. I don't want a roof-mount rack. I just don't like having stuff stick up that high.

I really dig the Paulchen rack that Ron Lussier has on his van but they apparently don't import that particular model anymore.

Basically, I'm here looking for those of you who actually own and use various bike racks to send me some e-mail telling me the pros and cons of your setups. What makes your rack good? What don't you like about it?

I'd also like to get a fairly good rack without breaking the bank. I don't know if I could scrape up $400 for a bike rack. In fact, I highly doubt it. :-)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Sean --
