The Carat has more standard features than the GL and also includes removeable rear-facing seats behind the driver and front passenger. These are really handy and when removed (1 minute's work) create a very large central cargo area.

They made smiliarly equipped vans in 87 & 88 as Wolfsburg Editions and then made that style into a sub-model.

Works great. My 88 has 124,000 miles on it without a problem. Not that much slower than a standard. On some grades it's actually faster depending on the grade & gearing.
