Subject: safety of aux battery location

I'm considering adding a second aux battery in the compartment under the rear bench seat. This is where I have my Propex heater installed (I would build a "shelf" over the Propex). Seems that this could be dangerous though, with the possibility of igniting the hydrogen released by the battery. The sealed gel-technology batteries aren't supposed to release much hydrogen, so maybe I'm being overly paranoid. Opinions?
