Subject: bought a rack

Hey all, Got a bike rack today.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions regarding what kind of rack to get.

I wound up going with a rack by Hollywood, which sold at the bike store for $60. It straps on (4-point) to the Vanagon rear hatch and has large foam pads on the contact points.

Installed it is very sturdy, I'm impressed. The hatch will stay up with just the rack on, but will not stay up with the bike on the rack. Oh well.

The rack comes with two straps that have those plastic "ratcheting" clippies on 'em, to hold the straps where you set 'em. Those are for holding the bike to the rack. Then the four straps on the rack harness can be used to tie down the bike wheels, etc. (Lots of excess strap.)

I will probably go with bungees soon tho as it's tedious tying knots in all those excess straps.

Thanks again to everyone.
