There have been a couple of us looking for an answer to how VW solved this problem in the TD Syncros that were sold in Germany. With the diesel bellhousing one can get here, the starter resides on top of the bellhousing. Looking in my van, there are about two or three inches of the top of bellhousing showing before the fuel tank starts. Since the starter is longer than that 2 or 3 inches, it just doesn't fit. It would be a GREAT help if you could see where the starter is on that TD Syncro!
