I drove route 50 from Reno to Great Basin NP back in '90 when my Westy was brand new. I still consider it one of the greatest roads to travel and am looking forward to doing it again. It's been awhile but I can't recall ever having to stop for gas and I sure didn't take any extra along.

I'd encourage everyone to stick to route 80. Let's leave 50 The Loneliest Road in America for those of us who still like such things. Great Basin is a neat place to visit. The hike up Wheeler is worth the stop-over. Lehman Caves are so-so; if you have a choice, skip them and do Wheeler.
