Subject: CV Joint Bad 87GL: Questions??
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Volks, All Vanagons Sick! Need Help! Our 87 GL has developed a clunk clunk on the right rear CV joint while accelerating and decelerating. Specific Questions for those who know: 1) Can I drive a while on that joint? The clunk is intermittent but getting obviously less intermittent with time. First noticed it 4 wks ago and been driven daily until now for clunk was so intermittent as difficult to diagnose. 2) How hard a job are Vanagon CV joints/Boots? Any special tools required? 3) Can I get by with just replacing a) the bad joint (right rear, outer)($) b) do only the right rear axle inner and outer or ($$) c) do I need to do left and right axles, inners and outers/boots ($$$$) Any feedback appreciated. My hope is I can get the CV joint(s) from Kyle, let my wife drive only as necessary and do the job myself if it requires no special tools. All feedback greatly appreciated. Regards Mark B.
