Subject: Re: re-keying door locks

This is in addendum to Kenneth Winter's recent thread about re-keying door locks. There is another alternative to obtaining or filing down the lock pins. Simply remove them! My sliding door lock had 7 pins of which 2 were too tall. Rather than filing them down or trying to replace them, I took them out. The lock works fine and only a locksmith will know the difference. Most thieves don't pick locks but break a window instead. Of course I still have 5 pins for security; if most or all of the pins don't match your key you may be able to re-arrange some of them to get alignment.
