Subject: Keep an eye on EV brake fluid level
Content-type: TEXT/PLAIN; CHARSET=US-ASCII

Recently, the clutch pedal freeplay on my EV would vary from almost non-existant to basically normal. So while I had some minor items taken care of at the dealer (new antifreeze....change the trans oil...) I asked them to bleed the clutch system.

Aparently air did get into the system, and the likely source was through the brake fluid resivoir. If you look at the fluid resivoir, the clutch system takes its fluid from the midpoint of the plastic container. As your disk brake pads wear, the brake fluid level drops, and if it drops sufficiently enough you may be sucking air into the clutch system under certain conditions.

The good news is that I don't need a new clutch...the sort of bad news is that I need to replace my brake pads.

So, EV'ers...run out and check your brake fluid levels.

Ric
