There is NO WAY that you should expect the fuel filters to normally
last  less than 1000 miles..  Normally speaking, mine lasted 30k (maybe
longer, I had owned the van for 30k when it was replaced).  Have about
20k on the new one.  (don't really know if this is too much or not, I am
the one with the fuel leak currently so ...  needless to say, it's
parked until I can get it fixed :)


If I were you, I'd also be seriously concerned about the fuel pump.
IMHO, the fuel tank needs to be cleaned out before any further damage is
done.
