Subject: Correct Temp Reading
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi all,

One thing this list has sensitize me to is problems overheating can cause. While there is some discussion on the temperature no one has said what the "normal" temp reading should be, and when it is a dangereous temp. Of course this is on a standard vanagon temp gauge with "red" light behind the needle

Therefore, I'll throw myself to the wolves for an answer cause I'm sure I'll get a variety!!! :)

Currently, the temp gauge needle on my 86 Westy reads between the lower portion of the red bulb to the high portion of it depending on the outside temp. As recently as Friday when it was in the 90's outside and traveling 50-70 mph in traffic, the needle was almost outside the high side of the red bulb, but soon retreated back to the middle of the red bulb. I would presume this to be ok, but only you will be able to tell me.

So when should I get worried?

Thanks in advance, Denys Mueller ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Denys Mueller Murrieta, CA 1986 VW Westy - BCHMOTL PO '80 & '89 Westys'
