Subject: '85 Vanagon Replacement Engine Vendors[via LSMTP - see[via LSMTP

I have an '85 Vanagon with ~200,000 miles on it that finally (I'm not complaining, mind you) needs a new engine. Actually, it only "really" needs a new right side head, but at this mileage why screw around? I would appreciate recommendations regarding suppliers of replacement 2.1 longblock engines. The dealer wants $2600 for an engine (uninstalled) and I have seen prices ranging from ~$1,600-1,800 (plus core charges of $400 to $600) from various other suppliers. I've swapped out a few engines myself in the past (albeit on BMWs) and think I'll tackle the labor myself. But I want to assure myself that I'm getting the best available materials. Suggestions, please!
