Subject: SYNCRO AUX FUEL TANK
Content-Type: text/plain

My appologies to all those who were so kind as to respond to my message(s) about my recently purchased 91 syncro westy with the additional fuel tank. I thought I understood the PO to say he had installed a 2wd vanagon fuel tank up front. This appears to have sent several people under their vans to check this possibility out. I have to say with some chagrin that I finally got some time this weekend to pull the syncro into the garage and let it thaw enough so I could see underneath. Peeking around the skid plate from the right front fender I could see that indeed the tank does not straddle the front axle but is on the right hand side of the van under the sliding door. So that's what is under that side of the skid plate! I presumed, after much peering and poking around with a flashlight that the additional 6 gals of propane are on the other side of the van. The aux petrol tank fills through a stock 2wd filler located in the normal place. The hose then passes through the fender wall into the space behind the fender under the sliding door. I couldn't see any more than that.

As promised, when time permits and the SAAB engine rebuild is done, I'll drop the plates and take a better look. I hope this satisfies some curiosity. Again, sorry about the bad info.

Adam
