Subject: Auto tranny needed for 1984 watercooled Vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi all,

I'm bummin. My trans has been slipping in the forward gears for a few weeks now, (reverse seems ok) so I ordered a screen and gasket kit from Ron at the Bus Depot a few days ago. I received it yesterday, and realizing the urgency of not putting off this job, I just installed it with fresh ATF fluid. No improvement at all. I also found several small needles from a needle bearing in the bottom of the pan, and the old fluid smelled real burnt. Anyway, it appears I need another tranny, cause after calling around to price rebuilding it, I quickly decided that a used tranny seems like the way to go. I live in Mass. and am looking for an inexpensive, low mileage auto tranny to fit this Vanagon (1984) in the New England area. If anyone has one or knows where I can find one, please respond.

Thanks in advance.
