Not sure this got thru during the time the list was down. Sorry for the repeat, if so...

I just came across an item in the Sports Rack catalog (1.800.RACK-USA), which may interest some of you with a non-camper bus/van/whatever. It's called the high gear top bunk (cat. # TB19503). It's basically a cartop camper, which attaches to the top of a vehicle, the way that one of those cargo boxes would. It's a fiberglass shell that sleeps 2 adults on a 54" x 92" mattress, that's supposed to take only seconds to set-up. It can be closed and locked for security. Options include a bunk for the kids, and and electrical package for home comforts. If not camping, one can unzip the inner tent part, remove the mattress, and then have a 30 cubic foot cartop carrier. It mounts to Yakima or Thule racks and includes removable side walls, ladder, and the mattress. The price listed in my catalog is $1995.00

The disadvantage of course would be that there's no access to this from the inside of a vehicle. Sort of like the car-top tent. This looks like a giant clam shell, with the wide part opening to the back. Anyway, thought it might be of interest to some of you. I'm not sure about the weight/strength thing on a bus/van, but it might be worth asking about.
