Since cold weather started I have had a problem every morning, that used
to be intermitant. I have an 86 Vanagon Syncro (barely broken in with
only 140,000 miles),according to the dealer it's running too rich, the
problem could be the Air Box or the ECM. Both of these parts are VERY
expensive. Is there any way to fix this thing by 1.cleaning,
2.refurbishing, 3.repairing, 4.or wiring it together with coat hanger
wire ????

The darn thing idles (barely) at about 400-500rpm, until it warms up,
and eventually (usually) evens out at a fairly steady 900-1000 rpm.

The dealer said that the air box would cost about $700.00, and once
installed, he would not remove if it doesn't fix the problem.
