HI all,
I'm home from the woods, and had a great time! Only 3 Minnor problem with the Syncro, after running it for hours over 8"-12" of snow covered mud, at 5-20 mph. The first problem I noted, the hard way, it my Viscous Coupling is not working when trying to back up! Do these things only work going forward? I could spin the front tires going forward, but even reving the engine to redline I could not get the front tires enough power to eather pull the van out of the mud or spin. Maybe the VC is going bad? The second problem is snow had jammed under the van so thick I could not shift anymore. I think I will try the shifter update to fix this problem. Last after the snow under the Vanagon started to melt, on the way home, I noticed the idle going faster and faster. Finally I had a suicide cruise control! Pulled over and found a larger mass of ice hanging on the accelerator cable, above the driveshaft. I think the fix here maybe to reroute the cable closer to the floor. This will allow the heat from the floor to melt the ice on the cable also. Any comments on VC going in reverse?
