I have an '87 Westy and am wondering how it should `feel' when I brake hard at high speed, let's say 55 mph or higher. Now with any car that I've owned if I brake hard at high speeds I feel a smooth, firm deceleration, as if the brakes are grabbing properly. But with the Vanagon it's different - if I brake hard I get a rather severe vibration (the whole bloody van rattles) and the brakes feels like they grab then slip, grab then slip, grab then slip ... I get a rapid whop whop whop whop noise and feeling. I took the van in to my local VW mechanic and he replaced the master cylinders in the rear. Now that *improved* the problem greatly but I find I still get alot of shaking and vibration when I brake hard at high speed. Or at least it's nothing like the smooth deceleration I've experienced with or other (non-VW) vans. Is this normal? dan -- Dan Resler Dept. of Mathematical Sciences Virginia Commonwealth University Richmond, VA 23284-2014 USA email: resler@liberty.mas.vcu.edu |
