The new one would be for my wife who is very anxious about having a
car she can count on.
We test drove a very nice '93, which she liked but it had 75K miles
on it.

We purchased a '93 EV MV Weekender in May '97 w/ 89k miles. This was
our first VW after
being loyal Volvo owners. (I still have my 760 Turbo.) My wife fell in
love w/ it since it brought
back memories of her childhood, spending summers in a Ford turtle-top
camper going all over
the country. The PO definitely took care of the EV, but sold it at the
right time as well. We immediately
had the A/C go out, the antenna, motor mounts. I also had rear brakes
worked on after they starting leaking
fluid. The horn has not worked for the last 3 months (checked the fuse) &
there is seam rust on the doors & kick panels.
Total repairs have come to over $1000 in 6 months. I'm not sure if you're
looking at a weekender or not,
but the Westy equipment has worked well.
I love the van, which my wife uses as her daily commuter, but the
bills are starting to get to me. We
spent $14,500, it had aftermarket wheels mounted, & came w/ the original
rims w/ Goodyear light truck tires.
We bought it in Milwaukee.
The regional VW/Audi distribution center is a mile from my office, & I
had a guy who works there stop me
at a light not too long ago. He was driving a '93 EV GL and said he has
gone through 3 horns.
Off the topic, the dashboard on the EV has a switch with the letter
'S' on it. I can't figure out what this is for.
Any ideas are appreciated.
Howdy to the Vanagon/VCOA (Volvo) "cross-listers" out there!
