I also remember Fel-Pro I think offering aluminum spacer to allow one to repair a badly fissured aluminum head, by welding up the fissure, then machining the head .040 or so, put the .040 back in with a "Spacer arrangment. I don't the details of the complete fix ie how the spacer was sealed to the machined surface, but at the cost of this other "fixes" I think this is really worth talking about.. It struck me as maybe a possible repair to our wasserbox heads. machine down the head surface, use the spacer kit to bring the head back to OEM Specifications, the put the OEM head gasket on.
